Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country located on the eastern coast of the Indochinese Peninsula, bordered by China, Laos, Cambodia, and the South China Sea. As of 2026, it has a population of approximately 102.2 million, making it the 15th most populous country globally. The capital is Hanoi, while Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city and economic hub. 

Vietnam operates as a socialist republic under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which holds a monopoly on political power. The country follows a "socialist-oriented market economy" model, established through the Đổi Mới reforms starting in 1986.
